Save the Date! – Saturday, April 27, 2019 – 5:00 pm for Kent’s Retirement party.

Transition Talk – Kent will be in the Chapel after worship on Sunday, February 10 to have a conversation about his retirement, boundaries after his retirement and so on. All are welcome.

Proposed Sanctuary Renovation – On Feb. 3, the Trustees presented an architectural plan to renovate the sanctuary, making it safer, more usable, and accessible while maintaining the historical integrity of our space. This was an opportunity to learn more about proposed changes and to ask questions. The trustees will not proceed with any plans without the approval of the congregation via an official congregational vote. Please click here to look at drawings of the proposed changes: Contact Kathy Bock with questions at [email protected]

Youth Mission Trip Meeting – Sunday, February 10 at 7:00 pm in Fellowship Hall.

Looking for Lenten Reader Submissions -This year’s First Parish Lenten Devotional will focus on how we can use creativity to build our relationship with the divine using the psalms as a starting point. Why the Psalms you might ask? Well as Megan Daffern, author of Songs of the Spirit: A Psalm a Day for Easter and Lent, reminds us, Psalms is the prayer book of the Jews. The Psalms would have been Jesus’ prayer book. By turning to the Psalms as a guide during Lent, we turn to the same place Jesus would have turned when he was struggling.
We need your help to put this resource together. Please consider choosing a psalm from our list (you can find the list here: or call the office if you need help) and responding to it or interacting with it in some creative way that we can include in the devotional. Options include:

Visual Art (create art inspired by the psalm or choose a piece of art that represent the psalm for you)

Literary Art (re-write the psalm in your own words, write a reflection about the psalm)

Music (choose a piece of music that reminds you of the psalm or write/record a melody for the psalm – we can help you record it if you need help)

Lectio Divina – Use the practice of Lectio Divina (Excerpted from Praying in Black and White: A Hands-On Practice for Men) to engage the psalm and share your result. You can find an explanation of this practice here:

Church School Update -We started the year discussing Epiphany and the importance of bringing our light to others. Here are some examples of how the children see their light.
I pick up trash at my school.
I compliment people.
I tell a joke to make people smile.
How are you a light in your community?
Matthew 5:15-16 – 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
2/10 – Theme: Book of Psalms
2/17 – No Church School
2/24 – No Church School

Coffee Hour -There is a new signup sheet on the bulletin board. There are openings from February 24 – through May. You may bring your own snacks or check the bottom shelf of the freezer to use what we have. We supply the frozen lemonade and the half and half for coffee. You would come in one hour before church to set up and clean things up after coffee hour. If you have never been a Coffee Hour volunteer, we will mentor you on your first Sunday. Thank you for your consideration.
