2018 Stewardship Campaign

First Parish is deeply rooted in our history and tradition, but we also continue to evolve and remain relevant to the ever-changing world around us. Whether you attend worship each Sunday, once a month or several times per year, you can attest to the energy present at First Parish. It is palpable, and takes many wonderful forms.

This year we took a major step towards reducing our carbon footprint. In March of last year, our new solar panels went online and already they have generated much conversation – not to mention electricity – and are helping us be better stewards of our natural environment.

Our youth programs are popular and vibrant – serving more than 80 local youth in grades 5-12 this year.

Worship continues to be life-affirming, as others show courage in sharing their personal stories – stories that inspire and shape our lives together.

And we’ve managed to move into a new phase of music as we continue to explore the important role that music plays in our worship and new ways to celebrate the talent within our congregation.

In addition, we continue to actively participate in the community at large through partnerships with groups like 317 Maine, Merrill Memorial Library, and YCAN. We are the charter organization for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. We donate space to the Food Pantry. Beyond this involvement, we have a wide variety of other organizations that use our space including AA, Fly-Tyers, the Red Cross, North Yarmouth Academy, Portland Lesbian Coffeehouse, Royal River Academy, Royal River Community Theater, Yarmouth Community Chorus, and Yarmouth Community Services.

Each of us is called to serve in unique and amazing ways, and our collective contributions to the church, local community and wider world is remarkable. We are able to give much, and receive much more in return, because of the financial and spiritual support of our members and friends.

This year’s budget includes modest cost increases and provides for us to begin putting away $7,000/year toward the purchase of the solar panels in 6-7 years. Simply put, without our pledges we would not be the same energetic, involved church that we are today. The Stewardship Committee invites you to prayerfully consider a financial pledge to support all that we hold most dear in the coming year. While any amount is greatly appreciated, an increase of 3% would allow even more opportunities to serve our congregation and the wider community.

An on-line pledge form can be found here www.firstparishyarmouth.org/stewardship or hard copies will be available in Fellowship Hall.

You have likely noticed all the work on the exterior of our beautiful building. In order to complete all the projects currently envisioned, we will need to raise additional funds. These projects include accessibility upgrades, lighting, completing the exterior repair and painting, window restoration, and refurbishing the pew cushions. In light of these projects, there will be a capital campaign kicking off this fall as well.

We are a congregation of generous people. Let our hearts continue to beat together as we invigorate our work and share our stories with the world.

Thank you for your time, your consideration, and your help keeping First Parish a vibrant and powerful church community.
